Using recent version, portal filter do that.
If not, set the record id of specific record to a global field and use it on relation of the portal.

I have a portal with one row showing (Its not a list and so the listview wouldnt be working).
Is it possible to show specific related records? Right now the portal is only showing the first entry.
I thought I could do so with running a script that looks for the record. But it didnt work.
I am wondering now if such thing is even possible!
Found sets (e.g. what you get when you search for records) don't have any impact on a relationship, so this doesn't work. A record needs to match the predicate you defined in the relationship (or the calculation you used in a portal filter) to be displayed.
Can you describe your goal in non-technical terms, i.e. what/how many records do you have and which one(s) do you want to be displayed?
I have records of people, that is the main information so there will be a lot of them.
Some of the people will do schools with my organisation (like courses). For that they will have to run through a application process. One person can do multiple schools.
I need to have the application process on the main page in a tab. So I tried to show them with a portal. However if the person is doing multiple schools it will always show the first school they did, cause its the first portal row.
I hope that was not too non-technical.
So I was thinking I could have a filterfield (filled through a script) outside of the portal that is filtered in the relationship and then filter the portal by the relationship. Maybe that would work.
Yes, filtering (the portal) is a good way to change the portal based on different needs.
I made an extra field on the Contact Table, that I will with the key of the School via script, and then I filtered the portal: filterfield=schoolkey
