you can then continue to run in FM 12
> Can I edit in FMP13 but continue to use FMS 12 as the FMS13 requires me to seriously upgrade my server.
I tried that and it didn't make any difference so I guess my problem is not unknown objects.
I am trying to run a very basis system for only 3 to 5 client users ( no web access ) and so using VPS with Win 2003 /32
I have it running with 3GB RAM ( min is 2) and 2 cores with SSD drives - costs only $55 per month.
The application runs fine for the users but it is terribly slow switching from Browse to Layout and back again with not uncommon Filemaker Pro Advances has stopped working crashes.
Monitoring the performance during all of this the server is only just ticking over with CPU maxing at 10% - and plenty of spare ram
Any suggestions as to what I can do to cost effectively improve this area of performance.
I am beginning to think my desktop has slow connection ( 5Mbit) and Windows 7 decides the application has stopped running. Doesn't explain why it takes so long for the server to switch modes.
Now upgraded desktop to 8 core/8GB Ram and it still takes almost 2 minutes ( I timed it) to change from layout to browse mode just sits in circle or death mode. So far has not timed out but it must be close.
I used to run the same database using filesharing on standard FMP Pro from a less powerful VPS and it would take only a few seconds to update.
I concluded after doing the FMP13 test that it is not an 'unknown object' issue. You are correct however as it is a layout issue - the main culprit is the main operating screen with over a dozen tabs, I will start there and see what I find.
