Why Might FileMaker 12 Have Begun to Misbehave?

I support applications developed in FileMaker 11, 12, and 13 so I have all three of these versions of FileMaker Pro Advanced installed on my iMac. For the last two days FileMaker 12 has begun to misbehave. When I first run FileMaker 12 Advanced the splash screen fails to disappear and my mouse pointer takes the shape of an hourglass. When I open files I find that custom menus have disappeared from my custom menu sets leaving only the menus Format, Scripts, Tools, Window, and Help if they were included in the current menu set.

I tried to reinstall FileMaker 12 Advanced but that didn't help.

Can anybody suggest why this has begun to happen recently? Can anybody suggest a solution?
