Yes, there is; we made Barcode Creator just for that! You pass the data to want to encode as a parameter, and the script result is base 64 ready to be converted for a container field using FileMaker 13's Base64Decode function. If you don't have FileMaker 13, web viewers and the free Base Elements plugin are other alternatives for converting the base 64 to an image.
Are you asking about Go or FMP? I had no problem using a usb bar code reader on FMP. It acts like an input device. Have the cursor in a text field and scan the barcode. The value of the code is entered into the text field. You can make settings on the code reader to end the code with a tab or enter character. Hope this helps.
Barcode creator looks very nice I must say! In the past I have used a barcode font: http://www.barcodesinc.com/free-barcode-font/ which worked pretty well.
Or check out this post about using the ScriptMaster: http://fmforums.com/forum/topic/79165-barcode-generation-for-datamatrix-datamatrixrectangle-code128-pdf417/
Looks great, thanks for the information. I forgot about the barcode fonts. I think we will be trying the barcode fonts first.
You can also Have a webwiever with jquery, type jquery barcode in google and you'll find standalone js that can do 2D or QR codes without images /fonts
I created a non-plugin solution called Code128. It is three custom functions. That's the version that it does. Its free and you can search for in using the tag ronsmithmd also. I use it primarily to read custom barcode labels for vaccines and when parents are signing for schedule 2 prescriptions.
