Many thanks for that link it was very helpfull. I gues i am looking at a value index. In the article in mentions only the first 100 characters and i presume that this is old and is now 110 charcters or is it more?
From the FileMaker KnowledgeBase system, answer ID 141625:
Maximum field size, by type:
- Text: < 10,000,000 characters per field per repetition (limited by available memory) with optional text style runs and paragraph runs. Index is based on the first 100 characters of each word or value.
- Number: Support values from 10^-400 up to 10^400 and the negative values of the same range. Index based on the first 400 significant digits. Up to 1 billion characters per field. The first 400 digits are indexed.
It goes on to indicate the other indexable field types, of which dates, times, and timestamps appear to fully index due to their limited lengths.
The documented number 100 is not changed from FM9
but FM12 use 109 chars as index (right click on the field 'insert from index' or use self relation )
On the other hand, sort is limited 100 chars.
