Use a script trigger on entering the field to insert the current date.
It Works. Thank You!
or define the field as date type , auto enter = Get ( CurrentDate)
If you use the script trigger method, I would also add an If step to check to see if the field already has a value. You probably don't want a record's value to change to today's date every time someone enters the field.
If applicable, the auto-enter is probably a better option, assuming that record is always created on the date that you want in that field. For example, if the records are created on one day, then the data entry is done on a different day, then the auto-enter is not the way to go. An example would be an office person makes the appointment, then the field tech/inspector/whatever does the work a different day and that date field is the date that the work is performed.
Shawn, good point about checking if the field is empty before inserting the current date. I have to say the date picker is one of my least favorite things about FM GO. I would like to be able to select the picker if needed like FM Pro instead of having it pop up automatically in a date field.
Excellent suggestion. This is a library lending file with four fields: Date Borrowed, Book, By Whom, and Date Returned. The Date Borrowed filed is first in the tab order and upon creation of the record todays date appears in the Date Borrowed field just fine. It was the Date Returned field that was the problem.
Checking to see if the this field already has an entry will avoid a potential error if the field is re-entered during an obervation.
