What version of FMS?
Can you use any command line functions?
I had similar behavior recently and restarting the server process from the command line corrected the issue. You said restarting services didn't help; perhaps a server reboot might be required.
if the files are hosted and users can connect then the database server is running and trying to start it again will return an error.
Sounds like it is just the admin console that is not updating correctly. You can restart that from the command line without affecting the connected clients like a full services restart would do:
fmsadmin restart adminserver
Wim is correct. Sorry; I left out the part that I couldn't get the admin server to restart in my case and had to shut down the server process first. Oops.
The issue is resolved now. The issue is because of "Task scheduler" of windows. There was one task which will stop the service to take external backup and after the backup , other task was starting service which is not recommended... Hence, it is solved... Thank you all for your time...
You should not rely on trying to stop the underlying FMS service to take an external backup.
- try to configure the external backup to just backup the backups and not the live files
- if you must back up the live files, use the FMS command line to pause the files before the backup and resume them after the backup. That is fast and reliable, does not disconnect any clients or close any files.
It's those connected clients (and any schedules) that may prevent the service from closing the files properly. If your external backup touches the live files when they are not closed or paused, that backup will be invalid.
