There is no new record indicator.
You're in list view.
No 'new record'...?
What is the vertical, black bar in the space directly above the new record?
Also, if I choose Records > Delete All, it says "Delete 1 record". Which
is contrary to my contention that the vertical line is a 'new record' indicator....
Very confusing... Got ideas?
It's possible you have a corrupted index. Try saving as a compacted copy. If that doesn't clear it up, try saving a clone.
There is no mystery.
You're in list view.
That's the current record indicator for the body part.
However, you may have mixed up your layout parts.
Do you have a subsummary part on the layout?
If you incorrectly specify which part is which, that is the result you get.
Mystery solved (I think)
The Account Descripiton DropDown had the Description field on top (to show the description instead of the FK)
BOTH fields had the script in it.
After I deleted the script from one, the 'new record' command acted normally (ie, no blank space above)
This is how it should look. What causes the 'phantom' space shown above is still a mystery. I suspect it is a bug in the dropdown? (Notice that the black vertical 'indicator' bar is still present and active on whatever record is present)
Synergy, could it have been allow creation of related record from this relationship (option checked in the relationship) in the relationship graph? You don't have a portal on this layout do you?
Glad it's "solved". But it is odd; this is the second thread with exactly this sort of issue within the last couple of weeks.
Nope. No portal. The layout is pretty simple. Just as you see it.
Agreed. I remember that post had an almost identical as the one described here. I hope these are just two coincidental isolated cases. Glad your solution is working.
Thanks to Bruce for pinpointing the exact cause of it.
Yes, it W A S working. Now, back to weirdness.... Why? Don't know. At first I thought the problem was related to the dropdown which had a description field overlaying it. So, I changed it to a popup. Worked for a while then failed.
I suspect it is something I have done but I can't derive what I did to cause this???
No, you are not understanding.
The blank area IS the active record.
Is there a sort involved?
At least for test purposes, I would suggest making the body section taller and making sure all the fields, etc are entirely within it.
Are any of the body parts "grouped" with header parts?
The screen shots don't match.
The vertical position of the active field in your first screen shot is right at the top border of its part.
It doesn't look that way in other screenshots.
When I 'add new record', I get the blank area AND a new record under it.
I can not, in browse mode, enter the 'blank area' nor does it show any fields.
the fields are directly below the blank area.
You mentioned a sort. And, I did find there was a 'unnecessary' sort in a script
that sorts on a table that was not in an open layout. Once I cleared that command,
the problem seemed to go away.
This begs the question "is this how FM is supposed to behave to an errant command?"
It seems strangely inappropriate.
Thanks for your thoughts....
