FMS13v3 on Windows 2012 Server Professional Standard 64 bit crash report .DMP

    FileKraft

      Hi there,

after experiencing extrem slow performance on the Server - i wanted to restart the server running FMS13v3 on Windows 2012 Server Standard 64bit.

      context:

clients see the server files hosted

clients connect but don't show as listed clients in the admin console

close file command via admin console results in files showing closing and server log shows close failed due to files still maintaining client connections

stopping the server disconnects the 2 clients (which weren't listed)

stopped server process thru Windows Services console.

      restarted server

server doesn't auto restart but starts up via Windows Services console explicitly

reviewing the fmserver log it tells me that the server created a crash log - windows after restart also flagged a service crash

now localized a file (as logged by fmserver) as fmserver crash-log in the filemaker server log folder named:  mserver_1407615704864.DMP

i would like to review this log but the data looks like

      ...

      †, ˜ ÿ˜5ñ'( – kp Ä, ˜ ˘Eñ'Ë – Êo– `, ˜ ®˜uñ'X µ— – ∂t¯ @, ˜ ÿ≤Öñ'(M– Üyÿ , ˜ »Æïñ'8Q Û – V~∞ , ˜ (∞•ñ'ÿOÃì – &É ‡+ ˜ ®˚µñ'X Ùx – ˆá‘ ¿+ ˜ ∏˙≈ñ'H JΩ – ∆å¸ †+ ˜ ®ˆ’ñ'X•ß – ñë@ Ä+ ˜ x˜Âñ'à – fñ$ + ˜ 8m5ó'»í– 6õ‹ ‡* ˜ ËoÖó' êƒ_

      ...

so trying to investigate thru help and fmserver documentation - i can't find anything.

      any ideas what to do?

      thanx

      regards

      uli

Those DMP files are for FMI to review so the best way to proceed is to open a support ticket and through that send them the DMP files.

Did you have the stats log enabled on FMS?  If so you can backtrack through that and see if there is one stat that jumps out around the time that the DMP file was created?

            Thank You very much Wim.

yes i log everything: - so it crashed before restart - at least the crash report was written before restart - sorry for the german server log - /* i tried on install (windows is set to english) to get it installed in english

            but it didnt */

why the machine restart didn't start the server as usual is also a concern.

The 2nd and 3rd line in the log are the biggest clues, column 14 and 15 are:

              Remote Calls In ProgressElapsed Time/call

Something was asked of the server that maxed out its processing capabilities and made it crash.  Can you pinpoint what?  There was only one remote call in progress and 2 clients connected - one of them was doing something that made the server crash.

Seems very similar to the old thread lock / index lock contention that happened a lot in early versions of FMS11.  Search on unstored calc with lots of records perhaps?

What are the specs on that server?

                thanx again Wim,

the server is a 8 core 2.4 GHz Intel Atom 2750 with 8 GB RAM and 2 TB Server Hard Drives running Windows 2012 Server 64 bit Standard -

the load is not high - 2 files one 5 MB - the other 1.5 GB

the cache is set to 2 GB

concurrent users max 4 - the file is mostly used to sync - short sessions ..
