I used Troi Serial plugin to directly integrate my CBC and Urinalysis lab instruments directly to the patient records in our EMR/practice management solution. My staff simply provides the instrument with the patient id and when it gets results it posts them directly back to that patient record. Been doing this for about three years flawlessly.

Thanks for the reply and providing an example of how you interface your soltuions with serial devices. It looks like the Troi Serial plug-in only has a developer version. $999 is a steep price for my client.
Developer version usually means more than one client. Look at the pricing again and determine the site license and/or # of seats. Remember that not all may need this functionality. Or you need the plugin on server.

Thanks for your reply. It's just for 1 workstation which has a digital balance attached to it.
If you contact Troi, I'm pretty sure they will let you have a single user license at an acceptable price. They did that for me several years ago.
Now we use a PS15 scale by Mettler-Toledo that has a USB interface and is better suited to our requirements.
I hope this helps,
