Alas, WebDirect can only be served from FileMaker Server 13. FileMaker Pro 13 does not "do the web thing", so to speak. The much heavier demands of WebDirect (compared to IWP) mean it is not part of FileMaker Pro, only FileMaker Server.
If you're a paid member of Technet, you have a FileMaker Server dev license available to you. You will need to use that to test WebDirect.
I'm sure that the guide I read today suggested that I can do it locally, it must be assuming that it's done locally from the server?
ok, so I've downloaded the server software (dev) and setup a server to host my files, uploaded my files, managed to work with the files a few times, then I go the message:The maximum number of users allowed to connect to this server has been exceeded.
Which is kind of whacky, since I'm only 1 user accessing the files...? What is going on...?
ok ignore that, problem went away, but now I'm looking at my file and I can not see any records, plus there are some container fields that don't display my image until you enter find mode... weirdness. I'm not feeling very confident about web direct so far...
I've read the guides etc, but it looks like there are some serious gotchas... anyone care to summarize some key bits I should keep an eye out for?
If your file has triggers especially onFirstWindowOpen, need to modify it.
Modify it ? How exactly...?
Also, it would seem that my "The maximum number of users allowed to connect to this server has been exceeded." has come back...
Geeze, I've just spend 3 hrs trying to get a VERY simple file to come up via a web browser... the guide makes it seem soooooo easy.
I agree you that dev server has only 1 connection frustrate me, but simple file should work well.
Did you test with FMServer_Sample.fmp12 file?
There are some of uncompatible script step for WEB, so if you have script, it might be modified for WEB compatible.
