Is it possible to use External Authentication with WebDirect? What about with Custom Web Publishing?
I heard at devcon from Salman Sheikh that he had SSO working with WebDirect, didn't have time to get the details on how he got it working and I haven't had a need for it yet so I forgot about it. Try reaching out to him to ask, I'm not sure he posts here.
As far as CWP is concerned, I do believe it's possible, but you have to use LDAP directly. The old Olm, Knight, and Petrov book (http://books.google.com/books?id=VaC_dttXRC8C) covered it at least at a high level. I've never done it myself, but at least it's alleged to be a possibility.
Thanks Mike and Mike.
Would I be able to use Active Directory (AD) with Citrix?
Here's a litte more background:
My client built an FMP solution to track suppliers, parts, projects, etc. The solution is only used internally and access is via AD. The suppliers frequently fill out and send in pdf forms which are then manually entered into the FMP solution. My client would like to have suppliers fill out the data directly into FMP.
This seems like a great use case for WebDirect (WD), but I haven't been able to find any confirmation that WD works with AD. It seems that CWP would require LDAP integration with AD (based on what Mike Mitchell wrote and my ignorance in this area).
I'm beginning to wonder if FileMaker is the right tool for this project. In any case, I hope that background info is helpful.
You should be able to tap AD using a Citrix connection. However, do be careful with how your network is segmented. I've run into situations where the Citrix server couldn't "see" the server on which the database was hosted, even when typing the explicit IP address or domain name, due to network segmentation / permissions.
Although, in the use case you describe, could you just provide a "supplier" anonymous access to the CWP app and then move the data from a DMZ inside the database to the main table after it was approved by a DBA?
