Container field displaying CGI application error

To display interactive data (generally PDFs) in a large container field within Filemaker from various contexts, I have a script that puts the contents of the whichever container field is chosen into a global container field on a separate layout where that field is set to be very large (so the PDF is immediately readable).

It worked fine in FM12 for about 7 or 8 months. The client recently converted to version 13 (FMS and FM Pro) and just reported today that PDFs are no longer displaying in this field and instead the field says "The specified CGI application encountered an error and the server terminated the process". I don't know if it stopped working upon conversion, or stopped earlier or later, as it was just reported to us, but I suspect it's related to the conversion to FM13.

The original container field displays the file name and exports the file properly, so the file is there and intact. What's broken is the part where it's displayed in a global container field.

Does anyone know what is wrong and how to fix it?
