Our IT department is rather unfamiliar with the whole Filemaker environment, so Im not too keen they could help me with this problem.
That's the biggest problem to solve. They don't need to get familiar with the FM environment, they just need to be told what to do. They are a service deparment, no?
You're probably not doing your credibiltiy with the IT department any good by installing FMS on Windwos 8 as opposed to a true server OS. That is probably going to be a big issue with them because it tells them "I'm trying to run something under your radar" but at the same time you're asking them "can you please help me to pull the wool over your eyes?"
They are not going to help you if they feel you are trying to bypass them...
So make sure you have that straightened out.
A bit of clarification:
accessing a FM database through WebD requires a pass-though on the firewall.
Thank you for the quick reply.
Good point on the server OS, shall work on it too.
Im plAnning to sort things out with our iT department this morning. Will give an update soon as possible.
Just a follow up.
We can now access our database using vpn. It was a compromise between our group and our it department. Outside access though possible is prohibited by our it group due to security issues.
I was thinking of using a two machine setup, with the web server machine located outside our hospital network. Is this setup possible?
