Do you have the FMP 13 file shared?
When you say you are connecting via wifi, is this your wifi network or a random wifi hotspot?
when ejannsen, you say it's a nightmare. Did you succeed connecting from your iPhone or not ? Keep in mind that if the database is not hosted by FM server, you can't connect through Internet.
I own a copy of FMA 12, and I can connect my iPad and iPhone to a shared database.
Troy, thanks for the response. Yes the file is shared.
I connect no problem on my internal office wifi. I want to go mobile and my understanding is with FM 13 I can connect up to 3 remote devices without needing server software. I think the problem may be navigating the router.
So a copy of 13 works on my office wifi connecting multiple devices. I do have a copy of server from my developer subscription but have had no success connecting remotely.
I would also check your firewall settings.
Find your ports here and try to open them:
A file hosted by FMP or FMPA allows a maximum of 5 connections. The FMS for the developer subscription has limits set differently. As troyd mentioned, you need to have FMS used ports opened.
To connect to your FM server, you need to know it's IP public address. This address is 'given' by your Internet connection provider, and might be dynamic or static. I fyou don't pay a supplement for a static address, you may use services that create an alias and update to numbered IP address automatically. Personally, I use no-ip (http://www.noip.com/).
