The open url script step only has control to command your default browser to open a URL, nothing beyond the context of the filemaker program itself.
It sounds like you need either a plugin that can perform web actions (EG Troi URL or monkeybread, but plugins might only handle things like POST and GET actions, not clicking links),
but probably more realistic would be to create web browser scripts via something like iMacros, and then call a bookmark to that:
If you want to get really complicated, you could script something, EG splinter for python: https://splinter.readthedocs.org/en/latest/ and then execute that directly from filemaker using a plugin, or calling your hosted script via openurl.
What is it exactly that you want to do?
There are other programs such as our "MyRefresher" application that does monitor web pages and click on a link, but it is not a FileMaker based application.
Perhaps a few more details may help our web guys come up with a suggestion.
If Filemaker opens a web page, using the Open URL Script step in ScriptMaker to open URLs ( Open URL [No dialog; <URL>] ), is there then any way for Filemaker to perform any actions directly on the web page such as click a link on the web page that has opened?
No, FileMaker doesn't have a way to do exactly as you describe.
You envision having FileMaker "click a link" all on its own. How would FileMaker know what link to click?
If this link is known ahead of time because the web page always has that link available, then you can simply go to the address where that link points using Open URL.
If you need to visit the page to analyze the web page source and discover what link to visit using Open URL (or navigate there using the Web Viewer), you can open the page in a Web Viewer and analyze the content of the web page using GetLayoutObjectAttribute("MyWebViewer"; "content") when you have named the Web Viwer object "MyWebViewer".
Many thanks, I will have a look at that
Many thanks I will have a look at that.
I want to open a web page and click on a link and then I want to repeat that process for a number of web pages. I was thinking of storing the URLs of the web pages in Filemaker as fields. File maker can process relations and each relation will have a URL field which an Open URL command can open. Once the web site is open I want to click a link on the web site. In know that macros or scripts can click links e.g. in Automator or Applescript and probably VB ...
So I want repeat such "macro" link clicking behaviour for multiple URLs which are fed from Filemaker, for example.
