" This shows that it’s not the email client."
NEVER jump to that conclusion. As a former IT L2 tech, I can tell you that email clients are sources of massive headaches. It could be a combination of OS & email app that is causing your issue. Reading your issue details, it points to that computer, and NOT filemaker.
Have you tested a new email by using Open URL?
How about testing a filemaker email plugin?
You might want to look into your outlook trust center settings to make sure that FileMaker is set as a trusted app with full access. That has solved mail issues for me before.
That reminds me of what else I tried actually....
I installed EditPad Pro, opened it, typed an email, clicked on the email and outlook opened with a properly filled in email. Microsoft Word also works.
Running an Open URL script step with mailto: will open an email with the email filled in, the only problem with that is that you cannot add an attachment.
What plugin would you suggest that will open an email with the email client that supports attachments?
I went to the trusted center but there is no way to add anything to the list.
It had just occurred to me that I never tried this with an attachment. When I do I get this error: "an error has occurred when creating an email: object reference not set to an instance of an object" in a window that has no title.
Here are the settings I used:
After I saw this error I reinstalled Dot Net 4.5.1 and that did nothing.
Any other ideas?
I don't think FMP can find the document. Try using a full path. Set a variable to the path and use that var. in the attachment window.
Set Variable [$Path ; Case ( Abs(Get ( SystemPlatform )) = 2; "filewin:" ; "filemac:" ) & Get ( TemporaryPath ) & "text file.txt"
It looks like it is finding the file because if I put in a path that I know doesn’t exist there is no error and no attachment occurs ( still no email in the to field ). I created a filewin path to the file as well, same error.
This error only happens when eM Client is the email client, if I set it to outlook and press the button nothing happens, no error, no email popup. If I uncheck the attachment option in the send mail I am back to an email opening with the subject and body but no to address.
Is there a plugin that will compose and email in the user’s email client?
Most of the plugins available are SMTP based. The exceptions I know of are Outlook Manipulator and Exchange Manipulator from Productive Computing
PC has free demos of both on their website, they come with demo files for testing as well.
I went to productivecomputing.com and tried the Outlook SendMail. After setting it up I tried to send an email with the demo file I get a dialog box titled "Error" with the the Text "Success" and nothing happens after that, no email.
Except in the first thread where the guy says he solved his problem by reinstalling windows 8?
Also another note right below it said he solved the issue by running FileMaker as administrator (right click, run as administrator) So maybe it could also be a group policy deal.
I am using Windows 7 64-bit
The way I think I ruled out group policy is that I disconnected from the Domain and am using a local admin account. I deleted the local group policy files and reset the group policy by doing this in cmd:
RD /S /Q "%WinDir%\System32\GroupPolicyUsers"
RD /S /Q "%WinDir%\System32\GroupPolicy"
I also ran filemaker with the "Run as Administrator" command in the right click menu. No dice.
You’re installing from an image though. If your image is corrupt in some fashion, it will propagate to all devices restored from that image.
Do you have an installer CD for win7 that you can try a complete reformat on? If you can you could at least prove that the IT department needs to come up with a newly minted image for this project.
Unfortunatly that's not an option for this company. It's very hard to get IT to do anything. Unless they are having problems with something else they are going to stick with what they have.
Until I can figure this out I will use filemaker server to send emails and BCC the sender.
I will try to get a report of what went into making this image.
You’ve proven it DOES work in FileMaker on other systems, sorry it will be an uphill battle with finger pointing though.
