Any News on "hide keyboard"? This is creating a world of problems for me! So, maybe someone has just come up with a great workaround or knows something about the newest version coming out !
One way you can get around this is to echo the field contents out to a Web Viewer instead. If it's only for viewing, then this will suppress the keyboard just fine and you can still have the scrolling capability.
What problems are you having?
I'm doing a fun mobile solution which all about locating blocks of text within various published books. The final destination for the user is to read a segment of the book. The segment is obviously stored within a field (the solution is hosted). I've got a field with a scroll bar on the view layout, and when the user clicks into the field the keyboard appears making it impossible to scroll through the field for easy reading. (I'm amazed that FMI hasn't already dealt with suppressing the keyboard since many times a field's content is for viewing only.)
The way I'm choosing to deal with this for now is to make the field size larger than the largest content, and the user then scrolls over the layout instead of in the field. This works OK when there's only one returned record. However, when multiple records are returned and the text amount is small, a lot of white space between records is the result; so much space that the user is not even aware there might be more text "below" the viewable screen.
All would be solved if the keyboard could be suppressed when entering the field.
You got any magic up your sleeves, Roy?
I like Mike's idea. Another idea is to use a popover. You can put an oversized merge field in a popover. After putting the merge field in the popover, make the size of the popover smaller. You'll end up with a scrolling popover that will not open the keyboard. When the user taps on a field have it execute a go to object that will open the popover.
Oh man I hope you're right! Exactly how do I echo the field to the web viewer? I'm working on this right now ... hope you're still there!
To be clearer in my question. Of course I know how to work with WebViewers in FM; but, I've never just had a field value display in the viewer. I tried making the calculation the field, but nothing is displaying.
That's a cool idea, too. Thanks for your input!
If I can get the web viewer working, I think that'll be better in light of the fact that I have records in a list view. Do you know how to "echo the field" to a viewer?
There is a lot of great information at the following Weetbicks blog post by Daniel Wood:
I believe that you will find some or much of the information there relevant to your current endeavor.
One section of the post discusses using webviewers for display of scrolling field-like content sans the keyboard (as per Mike's suggestion).
HTH & kind regards,
Here is the calc for the webviewer
"Data:text/html," & data_field
THANK YOU! What is the purpose of "Amp" in the calc. It appears I don't need it? I've used as my calc "Data:text/html," & GADLLevel03::Content . That works. However, I don't like the font it's using. Hmmm, I wonder if I can change that in the calc?
There are TextFont() and GetAsCSS() functions.
Hey, Steve. Sorry; I'm getting old and it was past my bedtime.
It looks like the other posters have you covered at this point. Let us know if you have more questions.
