That question is too generic. There are many different ways that SAP and FM can integrate, it really all depends on what you need to achieve.
And the good cooperation with the SAP IT-Consultants!
when you say SAP do you mean SAP R/3 / All in one or SAP Business One ? They are quite different. What kind of integration do you wish to do ?
We are using Dell BOOMI ETL for integration with Salesforce.
I'm certain that BOOMI will workk with SAP too.
Thank you all for the feedback.
Our IT department at LAUSD (School District) has been implementing a SAP solution to track all student information. I was just wondering if FIleMaker could integrate with SAP to take some of the load off. I don’t work for IT, so I would not have any specific details and it was just a thought I had.
Many people use FileMaker at the district, but not at the enterprise level. I was thinking of pitching it to the IT folks to use FileMaker with SAP to help, but not sure if I should.
FileMaker can be of great help to create side solutions that interact with SAP, however it's not recommended as a front end for SAP, as ODBC connections are not indexable and searches can be long, among other problems.
Many times we crash against a brick wall when we talk with IT people who is not familiar with FileMaker, are they?. I think it's worth the shot.
In the past they’ve consider FileMaker as a flat file desktop app. Recently there has been lots of bad news coverage on the failures from our IT department and here are a few articles that describe the issues at hand:
This district is so big I see the value of having FileMaker in the mix. It seems to me that all IT sees is an enterprise solution for everything. If they would consider FM for side solutions with integration to SAP, I think it would help them greatly by just focusing on the infrastructure needs. Since that department is undergoing a major restructuring reaching out now would be best. Is there a white-paper out there that would help in this process ?
It would be nice to be accepted from the IT folks, currently we feel like data-renegades. We support critical processes with our own FileMaker solutions and those solutions could reach the next level if we could tab into the matrix.
