You can use the Send Event script step to ask Windows through a command line / vbscript / powershell script to produce a directory listing of the folders you want (including modification timestamps on the files) and then import that output into FM if that is what you are after.
Any of the file plugins could do similar things if you are not opposed to using a plugin.
I once saw a solution which did without any send events or apple script. It was called "FMGo_Browser_Delete" by karo
I myself had this task accomplished with TROI File PlugIn functions.
(will work also with MonkeybreadSoftware, Dacon, 360-Systems Plug and others)
You other options, especially if you want to keep FileMaker closed and trigger functionality when the folder contents changes, are:
.bat or .cmd file
PowerShell script if you have access to PowerShell
You can use Task Schedular to run your script at a regular intervals.
On a MAC you can set up custom User Agents or Daemons, both can be set to run scripts on folder change.
i built a method a while back that used Googles xml-dir-listing - TheXML Directory Listing application recursively searches a given directory, and generates an XML f… to produce the data, windows scheduled event and vbscript file to trigger the production of the data, a custom style sheet to transform the data, and a server scheduled script to get the data into FM.
And yes i know this does not fit the desire to keep it in FM.. close as you can probably get is using a plug in
I use FileFire plugin. It works in Mac & Windows environment , for local or network devices.
