The Hosts tab sports a gear icon; if you select Network File Path from it, you can see (and copy) the path for a selected file, or specify a new one to be opened.
not as obvious as it could be... but works perfectly
I am uncertain regarding 14, since I don't have access to a 14 server at the moment, but:
In 13, once the file is open in FM Pro/Adv, you can go to the sharing menu, select "Share with FileMaker Clients...", and change the visibility of the file on-the-fly via the usual "Don't display in Open Remote File dialog". No need to go through the admin console to close the server-hosted file.
true... but if the file is already hidden on the server you can't open it to change that selection in the sharing dialogue box until you have opened it. sort of classic catch22 .
Quite right. Just pointing out that the reverse procedure is significantly easier.
After you get the file path, create an opener file and use that for an Open Top Secret FIle button. FileMaker will open remote files with the same account name and password as the opener file, if you treat it nice.
If needed, you can script a change of account in that file and do something like:
Change account to xxxx
Open File with account name xxx
change account to yyy
I think that will work but I haven't tested it.
