FMS14 fails to start on server restart

I have used my TechNet development license to install a copy of FMS14 on my test Mac Mini in my home office. I updated the OS to Mac OS X 10.9.5 (Mavericks) and updated it with all security etc updates before installing. It installs and deploys just fine and works as expected. I have it set to start FMServer automatically on system start, but when I restart the machine only the adminserver starts. In the Console log, there are these lines near system start time:

29/05/2015 3:05:09.575 pm com.apple.launchd[1]: (com.filemaker.fms[66]) getpwnam("fmserver") failed

29/05/2015 3:05:09.576 pm com.apple.launchd[1]: (com.filemaker.fms[66]) Exited with code: 3

If I try

$ adminserver start server

I get "Error: 10007 (Requested object does not exist)".

If I try

$ adminserver restart server on the command line

I get "Error: 10007 (Requested object does not exist)".

The first time this happened I uninstalled and reinstalled. I don't want to keep doing that. Any other suggestions?

Given the error message "getpwname("fmserver") failed", should I try giving it a different user account on install? I just left it to use the default fmserver account name.
