FileMaker uses whatever is in the Finder default. Click once on any PDF application in Finder and then do a Get Info (Command - I ). When it comes up, there is a section called "Open With". Select "Acrobat" and tell is to Change for All PDF files. Then you'll be good to go!
Thanks Taylor. That is what I had first tried but it did not work.
It turns out that the problem was the "version" of Acrobat that I was trying use as the default. It was an older version that I was using with OS X 10.7.5. Once installed Adobe Acrobat Reader DC and set it as the default it started working in FileMaker 14.

Get them out of these folders if you want to continue to use Apple Preview to browse into yours PDF within FileMaker. In other cases, nothing to do .
