as far as I understand, you don't get any message displayed, event not the spinning circle ? Strange, because of for example a DLL would be missing, you would get an error message.
Have a look at the Windows event logs, you may get a clue in there.

I've been using FMA 14 on Win 32 for a few weeks now without issue (Windows 7 professional). Today, I went to open the application and it won't open. I uninstalled, reinstalled - the same thing. I checked for Windows updates and nothing has been installed since I last used it. I also disabled my antivirus and firewall and same thing. What can be causing this issue?
These may not have necessarily have been removed if you un-installed / re-installed.
Thanks Steve – I removed everything and even cleaned the registry out. It’s now impacted FileMaker 12 and 13 too. I guess I’ll have to do a complete OS restore and try again.
Thanks you – where do I find the windows event log?
one way to get there is to right click on the computer icon on the desktop or in the Start menu and select Manage. You have to be an administrator for the computer to do this. Here is where you can find the logs:
My Windows is in french, check the icons on my screen shot, they will the same for you. Have a look at the Application and System logs for something related to FileMaker.
You may also have a look at the Task Manager to see if the program is running.
Hello friend - this application issue has raised its head once again. I had a fresh install of FMA 14.05 on Windows 8.1. It was working up until yesterday. I spent nearly 2 hours on the phone with FM support this morning uninstalling, reinstalling several times and still the application will not launch. This is the 4th computer this has happened to for this FM version. Can anyone please help me? This can't be just me..... The windows even log produced this error:

We even used an app called Revo uninstaller to completely remove everything, then reinstall, but no luck.
THANK YOU for any assistance you can provide.
This Microsoft article may help you correct this problem. It refers to the issue showing with Microsoft Applications and not FMP but?!?!? Two responses say replacing the Print Driver fixed it for them.
The fault module ntdll.dll error related to Office applications may occur due to several reasons, among which the most common ones are listed below:
l A faulty add-in enabled for Office applications:
n You may use application safe for each Office application to open for example open Run (press Windows key + R), type winword /safe, excel /safe for Word and Excel respectively. If it works fine, disable the add-ins using File > Options > Add-ins for each applications
l Incompatible printer driver:
n Change the default computer printer to XPS Document Writer using Control Panel and verify the status.
l Security software installed on the computer conflicting with Office applications:
n EnableClean-boot then try to use Office application to find if any Non-Microsoft software is causing the issue.
n Note: enable Normal Start-up after troubleshooting.
l Corrupt Windows User Profile:
n Create a newWindows Administrator user account and check if it prevents Office application crash.
It works if I create a new account, but the other fixes didn’t budge it. Seems wrong….but I guess I’ll just use the new account.
Thanks for your assistance!
Great that the new account works.
I suggest replacing the Print Drive anyway. If it's the Print Driver then maybe it corrupted your User account? It could happen again.
Yes, I replaced the printer driver, but it didn’t make any difference.
Yes, I expected that to be the case, since the issue was a corrupted user account I wouldn't expect the print drive change to make any difference. However (and hopefully if it was the real culprit) changing it may prevent it from corrupting the new user account.
