In FileMaker 12, if we have secure externally stored containers, do they have to go through an un-encryption step when they are exported out?
Well, technically, the decryption step would occur when the container is called upon by FM, whether it is being viewed or exported.
Thank you. We're seeing a lag in displaying images and the IT folks wonder if encryption is the cause.
Well, there could be a couple of issues there. If the images are very large, if they are stored on a separate drive/server/network and are having to be pulled across it and of course, the decryption. Simple, easiest test, turn off secure storage on a test file with some of those images.
Thanks - we are pulling thumbnails only. When we stored them locally, there was no difference in connection speed, but IT doesn't seem to believe me
Have you tried switching on permanent storage of thumbnails, to see if that makes a difference? (File > Manage > Containers…)
Thanks for your response.
In this case, the thumbnail we are trying to access is an auto-entered calc of the GetThumbnail function so that we can grab the specific size. So the permanent storage of thumbnails won't apply here (I believe - correct me if wrong).
