Sorry my last post had FM 3 . This was wrong - it is 9.3
I don't know how to delete the original post.
we got one or two customers who still are running V9 (Server/client). The solutions are fine, no problems (-:
That said, I recommend upgrading.. V9 is missing some things that (can) make life easier (ie triggers..) and V9 won't run perfect under current OSX
Just read Your other thread - You are on OSX Yosemite..
We have quite some .fp7 solutions running on customer sites. V11 is fine under Yosemite (only few glitches like tool tips that are not displayed in full lenght,).
I would not recommend to run V9 under Yosemite. We don't have installed V9 anymore. When supporting those solutions, we're working with Teamviewer (etc), but do some testings locally under V11.
THere are some bugs that were corrected in V11, but not in earlier versions (ie dateformat with umlauts, will display chinese characters or the printer settings). Installing a client should be possible (?), I'm unsure about the server
I got a V9 on one of the Mac's here - running 10.10.3
-> crashes right after launch...
FM10 works +/- fine (error message after startup because of ODBC), but runs after clicking away that message window
Don't know if the issue with FM9 could be resolved by reinstalling - I won't do that, V9 is too old here..
I am still on Mountain Lion but am considering upgrading to Yosemite. My worry is the Filemaker 9 will not work with Yosemite and your post seems to confirm this. I don't want to upgrade Filemaker as I now only use it to access this large data base of my photographic slides. So I don't know what to do.
if You have access to a Mac running Yosemite: Install FM9 and check it out. You could try to get FM11 from ebay - You can call FM support and ask them for a downgrade. You have to buy a V14 and get an older version as well (V11). It seems that FMI doesn't like this downgrade anymore - but since FM11 is still supported, it's possible to get the downgrade (until september this year)
Just make everybody's life easier and upgrade.
Forget all the half-way workarounds side grades, all that stuff.
I won't update to Yosemite... We have problems even with FileMaker 13v5 not updating screen properly... In my humble opinion, MacOS gets more unstable with each new release...
Just echoing others here, if FileMaker is important to your business it is time to upgrade to FileMaker 14.
There are some serious issues with FM 11 and earlier with file/directory access, for instance I can hard crash FM 11 and the OS every time under Yosemite along with the other issues mentioned above.
what issues exactly with FM11 (client) under Yosemite? This combo runs quite well, here (no plugins)
You should definitely upgrade to FMP 14 and start utilizing FileMaker's external storage for your photo/image files and all the other new features.
We are seeing crashes when trying to export data as Excel when the save window comes up. The same goes for trying to save a DDR. This was tested on a clean install of 10.10.4 and FM 11v4
Mountain Lion is a very good system. It runs very well FMP13.
On older Hardware 10.10 is not the best choice.
while we don't really export as xls often under OSX (we do export as xlsx under Windows frequently), we create DDR under Yosemite/FM11. No problem so far.
I did run a DDR of a big FM11 solution under 10.10.3 right now - runs fine
