Your son has Mac OSX M Lion or Lion, has Filemaker 12ver.1.4 can create a database and open it on his Mac.
He opens Filemaker and chooses OPEN under file menu and chooses the file to open it OR double-clicks it OR right clicks on it and chooses Open With in the contextual menu?
You created database xxx.fmp12 emailed it to him as attachment without zipping or compressing it.
Or placed it on Dropbox or some other online service?
Works for you, after the emailing and you redownloaded it (and open the download not the original), not for him?
He nad to get through several errors but finally was able to open the database. He has the new Mac, not sure which one - he just got it yesterday. So - consider this one closed:)
Perhaps you attached and emailed a copy of your file while it was open? That can result in a damaged file being emailed.
I saved a copy as...and emailed the copied database. The file that I saved as... was probably open when I emailed the copy. I'll make sure to shut everything down when I email the database again. He's able to see it now, though, so everything s fine now. Thanks!
If you are emailing the copy generated by Save a copy as, then the attached copy is closed at the time it is uploaded to the email server and what I am describing should not be an issue. Had you accidentally attached the original, still open copy instead of the copy generated by save a copy though...
