Enter layout mode.
Select your field and copy it to the clipboard. Then paste back to your layout. You now have two copies of the same field on your layout. Select the second field and use the inspector's data tabl to change the field format from radio buttons back to Edit Box. Place this field next to your radio button field. In browse mode, it will now display the value of the field without the radio button format hiding the "other" values.
The next step is to hide the data in this edit box copy of your field when the value is "yes" or "no". Right click the field and select conditional format. Click "Add" and select "Formula Is". Enter this expression (but with your field names in place of mine):
PatternCount ( "Yes¶No" ; YourTable::RadioButtonField )
Select More formatting... and specify a font size of 500 points. This will make the contents of the field invisible whenever the value in your field is Yes, No or when both buttons are clicked.
Thanks for these instructions, they somewhat work for me. The odd behavior that I'm seeing now is that if I select where the "Other" radio button should be, I get the field to input a value. I still cannot see it as an option though, have you seen this before?
Did you give it the conditional format?
Where is the "other" option?
The conditional format is supposed to keep values of "no" and "yes" from being visible in the second copy of the field. It would still become visible when you click or tab into this copy--something that can be avoided by using Field behavior settings in the inspector to deny access to this copy of the field when in Browse mode.
Yes, I did give the conditional format exactly as you described.
The "Other" option missing is the original problem that I was having. I never shows up when viewing from a web browser but shows up in Filemaker itself.
this is similar to a problem I was having with Other radio button choices, if I 'Allow entry of Other values' and entered another value, the field 'ghosted' upside down, as many pixels from the bottom of the window as the original was from the top - it's a problem I've posted before in this forum, with no solution. Resizing/moving the window clears it.
all in FM11, not web-based.
IF "other" does not show in your browser, try making the field wider on your layout. Layout objects do not get perfectly reproduced on the browser page, so you have to test and make small adjustments to the layout sometimes to get it to display correctly in web browsers.
