      $$Global Variable

      Post

      Dear Wizards,
Is there any way to directly show, on a layout, the value of a ($$) global variable without it being a reference to a field?
      TIA

You can put it on your layout just like you would a merge field:

          <<$$Global Variable>>

Note that the variable must have an assigned value or you'll see the above text instead. (But a "hide object when" or Conditional format setting could hide it in those cases.)

In some cases, where you have a script modifying the value of the variable, it's helpful to give this block of layout text an object name so that your script can use Refresh Object to force the displayed value to update after the value is changed. (If you are not using FileMaker 13, you'll need to use Refresh Window instead.)
