If you drag the .fp5 file on the FileMaker Pro.exe icon, it will automatically create a new file with the .fp7 extension.
I am trying to use either filemaker pro 8.5 or 8.0 to access a db that was created with filemaker pro 6, is this possible if so how would I go about doing this.
The original file must be converted from the old .fp5 file structure to the new .fp7 file structure. This is a one time, one way conversion. After conversion, the new file cannot be accessed with FileMaker Pro 6 or converted back to that file format.
It will also be a good idea to test your converted file. Converting from 6 to 8.5 isn't near as big a jump as the conversion from 5.5 to 10 that I've recently made, so you have a much better chance of getting a perfect conversion. However, you will want to check things out to be sure.
In my case, I had to make a few minor changes to some scripts and expressions to get everything working as expected.
