Add a Tab with a Script or Button
I would like to be able to add a Tab to a layout when a value is placed in a particular field and use that value as the name of the new TAB.
That can't be made but, even if it were, the new tab will be empty !
What is your REAL problem ?
In other words, describe what you want to accomplish with this and we may be able to suggest a different approach that accomplishes the same result.
An easy explanation would be consider a family unit and as additional members are added to a list I wanted an individual tab to be created for that new member that would be populated with fields that would allow a more in depth material to be requested and stored. I'm trying to find a way to automate the addition of more tabs as certain fields are filled in. If tabs cannot be created with a script can I at least change the name of tabs I've previously created as placeholders.
creating and modifying layout objects via scripts can be extremely difficult. In fact some of it is down right impossible. (Its something that many wish were available but would open up such a can of worms to implement that I understand why it has not been done)
What might be a better approach to your problem is to create a layout that has what you want to collect in it and then go to that layout via script trigger off the certain field, value or what have you.
You could even bring that layout up in a new window so as to preserve the previous one.
There are lots of ways to accomplish various tasks but the most fundamental to picking the right one for you is to understand the data and the relationships that they have to each other.
Tabs cannot be modified dynamically. I would suggest you try a different approach. Here's one possiblity:
Thank you - I'll try modifying my approach.
