Have you tried creating a brand new layout and checked to see if those fields shift or not? (If it's only one layout, then the layout may be corrupted.)
Have you tested this with other files? (Maybe the file is corrupted.)
Do the fields shift left or right?
Do you use fixed margins in layout Setup... | Printing?
No, I have not tried a new layout with all of the fields, but that sounds good to try; will do that this PM;
The solution is just one FMPro file, not sure how I could test it with "other files"?
The fields shift both ways, depending on which printer I switch to; mostly, the fields shift to the left;
No, I am not using fixed margins, never have. Would using this tend to correct this problem?
Every printer has a different maxium printable area. If you do not specify a margin, Filemaker locates places the objects you specified in your layout starting on the far left edge of this printable area. If you switch to a printer with a smaller printable area, your layout shifts right. If its printable area is larger, it'll shift left.
The solution is to specify fixed margins in Layout Setup...|Printing
Then your layout objects should "stay put" from printer to printer as long as the margin locates your layout within the printer's printable area limits. (Left right margins of 0.25 inches or the metric equivalent should do the trick.)
Yes, that solved the problem, the fields are rock steady now; all these years using FMPro and just didn't know about that <g>
