assigning two values to a single field
I have a table for geographic locations; 99% of time a given location only has a single name, but every once in a while it has two or three names or is subject to alternate spellings, etc. Is there way for me to selectively give a field two values, i.e. a kind of "or" operator such that the same instance would come up if I searched on any of the names? A join table or a check box solution does not really seem appropriate for this challenge.
Separate the two values with a return character and the record will be found in a search for either spelling. In fact, if you simply separate them with a space that will also work, but a return character would let you use either spelling in relationships, which may be a help later.
