You could make those fields a calculated value that inserts "N/A" if Chimney Present = "No".
That will auto insert "No" in those fields and you can set it to be able to override or not.
I forgot to mention that I already have a value list for the related values. So my "Chimney Present?" Values are N/A, Yes or NO.
My "Chimney Materials" Values are something like N/A, Brick, Concrete
So, Would I be able to still use that same value list in the "Chimney Materials" field if I picked "Yes" instead of "No"?
An auto enter calculation won't affect what values appear in a value list you specify for the same field.
Great! I will try the calculation when I get a chance. Hopefully I can figure it out. I have never done one before.
So I obviously don't know what I am doing.
Pic #1&2. I right click and click set script triggers for Chimney Present Field
Pic #3 I click onobjectenter and select script NA
Pic #4 is the script I created
If Chimney Present= "NO"
Set Variable Chimney Material= NA
set variable Chimney present= yes
I am totally sure this is incorrect so some feed back would be nice.
thanks in advance,
here is the second set of pics
Larry, you could define the calculations in the field definitions under the options rather than setting up scripts.
If (Chimney Present = "NO" ; "NA"; "")
Oh Snap! Thanks a bunch. I knew it had to be more simple than I was making it! I copied what you posted and it worked. I guess I have a long way to go to understanding the operators and the way you placed them.
That little trick works for quite a few situations, it has the benefit of being able to allow or block the user from modifying the field after it automatically populates itself. The drawback is if they modify the Chimney Present field at all those fields will recalculate.
I noticed on my form that if I hit Chimney present NO then it will go to N/A on the other fields and then if I hit Chimney Present Yes after that it will not repopulate, it will stay with the N/A value. Which is fine with me because if it is present I will have to use a drop down list to input each individual field.
Good. Wasn't sure how you wanted that to work, but it sounds like the settings are where you need them.
