What version of FMP?
Windows 7 64 bit. I had this problem also with Vista and XP.
Some others have reported issues with older versions of FMP and Vista, but not XP.
Does this happen with just one layout? (Perhaps the layout is damaged.) Check a different layout or create a new layout.
Does this happen with just one file? (Perhaps the file file is damaged.) Create a new file with just a few elements and test it to see if you get the same behavior?
This may sound strange JanSr but is there a transparent rectangle over the layout which you are actually selecting instead? Or is it a portal and you are selecting the portal? The all black thing happens when you select portals or fields but never layouts unless like Phil says it might be corrupt. You might try, in layout mode, Edit and Select All. And see if you have any black squares (called handles) at the outer edge of whatever you are trying to grab).
It amazed me from the beginning I used FMP 8.5. Fortunately most of the time I make use of my databases, but everytime I feel the need to change something it irritates.
ALL files and ALL layouts have the same trouble on ALL my PC's.
Before I invest in an expensive upgrade (for nothing more than this issue) I would like to know what is wrong.
When I click a field or anything else the black handles appear the way it should.
With the arrow keys I can move the object around without problems. But as soon as I grab a handle and start to move the entire layout turns black. It stops at mouse-up.
The effect is that you can not see what you do. Most irritating.
Here's the original thread I was thinking of when I first read your report and asked about versions and OS.
Note that other users have not reported this issue with Windows XP or Vista, nor with FMP 8.5.
Thank you for your posts.
It sounds like something is wrong with that particular layout.
Using the same database file, create a new layout, place one field on the layout and try to move it. Does the layout exhibit the same behavior? If not, then you will need to rebuild the layout from scratch.
If the problem continues, create a new database file with one field. Go into Layout Mode, move the field and see if the problem persists.
Please keep me updated with any progress.
Is there still no solution for this problem?
(I work with FM 7.0)
