Are you scanning into FileMaker Pro on a computer or FileMaker Go on an iOS device?
Many scanners that you might use with FileMaker Pro use a USB connection. Scanners can be used to enter text directly into a field in FileMaker Pro or Go. That part is pretty much plug and play at least for computers as long as the scanner functions in "keyboard emulation mode", which is the default setting on most such devices. But you then usually have to do more work with both the scanner and FileMaker in order to automate what happens once the scanner scans that bar code.
If you are using this with FileMaker Pro, you might see this thread for more on how to automate the process: http://www.mightydata.com/blog/barcode-scanning-in-filemaker-13/
Yes, I am scanning barcodes onto at computer. I bought FM Pro 13 and used the premade Inventory program on it(with some minor tweaks to accommodate our inventory). In that program it has a field for barcodes. If I give a link to a scanner can someone tell me if I can use this?
I suggest that you contact their tech support and check the following details:
Does it run in keyboard emulation mode?
Can it be configured to append characters to the beginning of the scanned data?
Can it be configured to append characters to the end of the scanned data?
The last two options are not absolutely necessary, but they make it possible to set up script triggers to perform scripts that automate the scanning process as described in the other thread that I suggested.
Can I use two barcode scanners with filemaker pro 13? If so, then can one be wireless and one be plugged in directly to the computer?
I would assume so. You can generally use two keyboards with the same machine and the same technology is used with scanners. (When a scanner runs in keyboard emulation mode, your computer thinks that it's just another keyboard inputting data into the machine.)
