What does a choice field look like and how did it function in Bento? (Never used that product.)
Bento's choice fields are similar to FileMaker's pop-up menus.
Peter, add a value list (File>Manage>Value Lists…) based on your imported choice field. Then add a new text field in Layout mode. Select that field and in the Inspector's Data tab, set the Control style to Pop-up menu with Values from your new Value List.
Jade ( and anyone else interested): thanks for that.
From the Bento Migration Tool assistant:
"The migration tool creates a unique value list for each Bento choice field. The value list uses the pop-up menu control style. "
this hasn't happened. What I get instead is simply the individual choices as a text field
eg. In Bento I have a Choice field called 'Order' with the following choices: Order/Stopped Using/Cancel/Got/Ordered.
When I go to FMP 'Manage' it appears as a value list. How do I get that into my layout? And why isn't it in my layout already, since it was in the Bento original?
Peter, to make a pop-up menu field using the Order Value List on your layout, refer to the Users Guide (its found in the Help menu under Product Documentation). See Chapter 3 page 91 under
"Setting up checkbox sets and other controls on a layout "
The migration tool does a remarkable job considering the differences between the two products…but it's not perfect. There are simply too many options controlling field behaviour in FileMaker Pro.
Thanks Jade, it's now 5 months downstream, and I finally got it ;-)
