Best way to search another table and return?
I looked for this answer around, searched the forums here and couldn't find a concrete "best" practice for this.
I'm in an invoice layout with customer information on one tab, that comes from another table. On entering a new record I'd like to allow the user to search for an existing customer and return/fill out the customer fields after the search, on the original invoice layout if this is possible.
I'm assuming on the invoice layout I can use the customer::* fields but how to let the user do the search and return to fill those fields is eluding me.
I can't use a custom dialog because they may need to search on more than the 3 field limit of the dialog. Any help would be appreciated.

It sounds exactly the same as what you are asking about.
There are many ways to refine the technique described in this thread. A lot depends on how you choose to set up your tables, fields and layouts.
