### Title

Bug with Find Operators "less than"

### Post

When using the "less than" (<) operator in Find, I get some odd results.

e.g. omit <1000 still includes 500 and 250 etc.

but omit <500 removes 1000, 10000 etc.

I think that the number ordering is weird, and it calculates 1 is less than 5, regardless of how many zeroes come afterwards. Has anyone encountered similar problems, or a fix?

I'm using FileMaker Pro 11 Advanced 11.0v1 on a Mac.

Many thanks, Philip

Sounds like you have numbers stored in a field of type text. Text is ordered by the rules needed to sort text into alphabetic order rather than the numeric order you'd get for numbers in a number field. (this is a fairly common mistake that I've made myself from time to time.) Also keep in mind that calculation fields specify a result type that can be either number or text.

The following numbers are arranged in ascending order if the numbers are in a text field rather than number. Logical value comparisons such as inequalities also use the same rules.

1000

3000
