# calculation based on other entries

### Title

calculation based on other entries

### Post

New to FM 10 Win XP.  Trying to figure out how to auto calculate a field where there are 3 variables.

Here is what I am trying to do:

field a is number of pages

field b is number of master pages

field c is type of page (even, double or 4x

field a is user entered number

field b is what I am trying to calculate

field c is a drop down menu with the three choices (even, double or 4x)

if a = 4 pages and c= even pages then i want b to be the same result as a

if a = 4 pages and c= double pages then i want b to be 2 times the number in a

if a= 4 pages and c= 4x pages then I want b to be 4 times the number in a

Can't seem to get this figured out.  Any help greatly appreciated.  Sorry if I have left anything out or if not explained well.  I am brand new to FMP.

Thanks,  Scott

4 pages, 4-up = 1 master page;

5 pages, 4-up = 2 master pages.

Its actually a page count for printing.

Pages are entered in a field marked pages, then select a drop down for Broadsheet, Tabloid or Book and I want to auto calculate the number of broadsheet pages used.  So the user will enter the pages for the job and then select the type. FMP calculation in a field called Broadsheet Pages will calculate the correct number of Broadsheet pages without the user having to figure it out.

Hope this makes sense,  just trying to make it so the conversion is done automatically to avoid any user math errors.  I can just have them enter both numbers without any calculations.

Thanks,

Scott

It doesn't make sense to me, but I am not a printer. Anyway, try:

Case (

Type = "Broadsheet" ; Pages ;

Type = "Tabloid" ; Pages * 2 ;

Type = "Book" ; Pages * 4

)
