Calculation to strip numbers from a field

Calculation to strip numbers from a field

Post

I am keeping track of a lot of data formatted as follows:   A001   B002   C001     XB002   XC300.

(It's rolls of film with the letters representing which camera exposed them.   The X indicates 2nd unit photography).

IS there an easy calc or function that would eliminate the numbers and just give me the camera signifiers--e.g.   Just the LETTERS from the field?

I suppose I could set up a substitute that knocks out every ordinal, but that seems a bit messy unless there's a way to say "Every ordinal."

You could do =

Left ( Yourfield ; Position ( Yourfield ; Filter ( Yourfield ; "0123456789" )  ; 1 ; 1 ) - 1 )

though I don't see why substituting out the digits would be "messy".

Thanks, but I think I prefer the substitute even if it's "messy."

When I say messy, it may have to do with how I understand how I have to lay out the formula.

Substitute(Camroll ; ["1"; ""] ; ["2"; ""]; ["3"; ""]; ["4"; ""]; ["5"; ""]; ["6"; ""]; ["7"; ""]; ["8"; ""]; ["9"; ""]; ["0"; ""])

This is working, but it's a lot to type (to my eye).

IF there was a

Substitute (Camroll; # ; "")  (where # equals any digit 1nthrun0), that would be less messy.   :)

This is a trichy one :smileywink:

Filter ( text ; KanjiNumeral ( text ) )
