Can a Drop Down Box Fill Color Change Based on the Selection in the Box?

Post

Hi everyone.

I’m using FileMaker 10, and am now working on a music collection database.  There are six genres of music, and each genre is color-coded.

I’ve created a field that is a drop-down box with six different colors:

  1. Blue
  2. Green
  3. Orange
  4. Red
  5. White
  6. Yellow

Now…here’s what I want to do with the layout, if it’s possible:  I’d like the fill color for the drop down box to change to the color I’ve selected.

For example, if I select Green, I want the fill color for the box to change to a light green (light, so I can read the text).  Or, if I select Yellow, I want the drop-down box to change to a light yellow fill color.

Is this possible to do?  Is it simple or complicated?

If it’s complicated, then is it possible to create a separate drop-down menu that contains colors, instead of text?

None of this is really a big deal, and if it’s not possible, or too difficult, I can live without it.  But if it can be done, and can be easy enough for a novice to do, then I’d like to try it.

Thank you!

Jd
