I am trying to place this formula ... "Evaluate(TextField)" into the specify calculation window for a field but it comes up and says "field can not be found".
What exactly do I type into the "specify calculation" window? I am using a text field. Do I need to make it a calculation field?
I simply want to type in simple math in a field and have it calculate it for me.
feldwert setzen (meinetabelle::meinergebnisfeld; berechne (meinetabelle::meincalcfeld))
set field (mytable::myresultfield; evaluate (mytable::myfiieldwiththeformula))
greetings from germany
I am not able to make this work. My table is called "projects" the field is called "amount". It is all on the same table and layout. I have tried typing in the suggested formula and I still can't get it to work.
Maybe my problem is I trying to do this from one field? Can you have one field that you type a formula like... 2+2, or 10x25, and have the result show in the same field?
Sorry I am just a rookie here. I am not sure what to type into the "specify calculations" window.
Thank you for your time
Can you have one field that you type a formula like... 2+2, or 10x25, and have the result show in the same field?
Yes, you can: make the field a text field, and set it to auto-enter calculated value =
Evaluate ( Self )
Uncheck the 'Do not replace existing value…' option.
Note that this will overwrite the entered formula with the result.
That works great!
Now the other thing I was hoping for was, (I know I'm really pushing it here) Is there a way to have the field show the formula that I typed in when I click on it.? In other work, if I typed 30+10 can I see that when I click back into the field and when I click out of the field see 40?
Not if using only one field (as I said, the formula is overwritten with the result and doesn't exist anymore). But you can use two fields, a Text field for the fomula, and a Calculation field =
Evaluate ( YourTextField )
If, on your layout, you place the calculation field on top of the formula field and make it non-enterable, it will work the way you have described.
Thank you, you have been very helpful.
