Welcome to the forum, Michele707,
Do you mean you were opening a file using FM8, but that someone has sent you a file written in FM9 and you are now trying to open it?
Or do you mean you had FM8 installed on your computer and someone has e-mailed you a copy of the FM9 application which you have installed?
If you want to add/change/remove a password you need to know an account with Full Access privileges to the file. Open it using that account name and password, then use File -> Manage -> Accounts and Privileges to make whatever changes you want.
I did not find on the forum (new to it) an answer about eliminating the window asking for Account Name and Password each tiem I open a file which I do not need to secure. I am the onyl user of the FM Pro 10 advanced on my machine.
Is there such a possibility, besides leaving blank the password for the account to get faster to the records?
In File Options, there's a setting to specify what account and password is used to open the file without asking for a password. The default setting on new files is for FileMaker to enter "Admin" as the account name with the password field left blank. Assuming your file has an Account named Admin with no password, this setting will allow you file to open in full access without asking for a password.
