Can I import a list of fields from excel to set a up a new table?
Depends on the format of your Excel file.
If the field names are column names in the Excel file, then you can import the excel file, using the new table option to create a new table and there's also an option to use the first row for field names.
Thanks. It is tab-delimited. Simply a column of field names. I intend to import the data later. (Four related files, with foreign keys to (re)make the links) as we discussed last week.
I was going to set up the four files by importing the fields first. Then create the relational structure. Then import the data later.
"Tab Delimitted" does not describe an Excel file but rather a text file--probably created by exporting data from your spreadsheet. If you replace the carriage returns with tabs, you can import this text file as I described in my first post.
I think it would be simpler to import the data and field names directly from the excel file. That pulls in your data and names the fields all in one operation. You can then set up the relationships and add calculation fields as needed after the import.
Many thanks for your advice.
