Are you in Layout mode?
In layout mode I can right-click (windows) the tab and tab control set up appears in the menu and is accessible to me. I'm using FMP 10.
Yes, I'm in layout mode. I'm using FM 10 as well. Had some luck setting up new tabs and portals to add to the existing ones on the bottom part of the screen, but can't seem to access the 'main' tab control at the top...
Has the tab control been "locked" ? If you click on the tab control in layout mode and don't get sharp black selection handles (the little black squares), then choose Arrange/Unlock and see if that fixes the problem.
Hmm, no, it wasn't locked, and I do get the little black squares... it just won't let me at the Tab Control menu... it doesn't appear when I right-click, and if I go to the Format menu it is greyed out...
What happens when you double click it?
Nothing... the Object info screen comes up, but that's about it... most of the time I have that on anyhow.
The tab control set up dialog should pop open when you double click a tab control in layout mode. The object info tool shouldn't be involved.
Try creating a new tab control and double click it. What pops up?
Not questioning your honesty or intelligence here, but it still sounds like the tab control is locked. Not saying it is, just that the behaviour you report suggests the possibility.
Thanks for your help! I know, I'm beginning to question my intellegence as well ;) It does seem as if it's locked, but everything I check says it isn't. But no matter what I click on, I can't get the Tab Control menu to appear, it's driving me bonkers. I keep trying to attach a screenshot, but can't seem to get that to work either, arg.
I tried double-clicking a locked tab control and still got the tab-control set up dialog even though everything was greyed out. That seems to rule out the "locked object" possibility.
I'll repeat a question I asked last post: What happens when you create a completely new tab control and double click it?
If everything works correctly on a brand new tab-control, maybe the layout or the tab control is corrupted.
If I create a new tab control, it works fine... I've tried putting one beside the existing tabs, in the hopes that it might somehow list the other three tabs that are already there, but (not surprisingly) that didn't work.
Might just put it down to it being corrupt, and think of another way to approach what I want to do.
Thanks for all of your help!
In that case, I suggest the following:
Perform a recover on your file and test it.
Create a new layout and copy all the items except your problem tab control to this new layout.
Create a new tab control with the same size, number of tabs as the original.
One tab at a time copy the contents of each tab of your troubled tab control and paste them onto your new tab control.
I think one of those two options should fix the problem.
