More information is that my main machine running 10.6.4 has total problems with this file crashing just general explosion of FMP11 total meltdown. I then take the same file to my other machine running 10.5.8 and no problems with the same file, so it is not the file or any corruption in the file itself. Its like some kind of conflict with my main machine running 10.6.4. I have tried uninstalling reinstalling, permissions repair, delete files etc etc etc etc. Anyone have any ideas on actual hardware conflicts??
More information is that I open a clean new data base and make a couple of new fields I then try and delete the fields by right click delete the fields. The confirmation dialog box comes up for a tiny 1/2 a second and then it is hidden and you cannot click on it as it is not there. Then click a couple of more times and FMP crashes.
I would really like FMP to work on this machine does anyone have any ideas seen something similar?
Research "Fonts" and "snow leopard" on the web. Snow Leopard (OS 10.6) has had a number of issues with fonts and font suitcases that worked fine with older versions of the Apple OS. This affects FileMaker's stability and that of other programs as well.
Dear Phil, Thanks very much. I Checked this out and basically stripped the fonts down to original Snow Leopard install fonts, ran the resolve duplicate fonts thing etc. Still have this persistent crash with FMP. Where you click in a field, right click and it just flashes the menu then it gets stuck and crashes. Hmmmmm...
Try trashing the preferences file.
Try a completely new install of Filemaker on your snow leopard machine after first deleting all directories created by the original install.
See what happens when you run a recover on the file. Sometimes an issue with a file is more of a problem with one OS release than another. The crashing may have, in fact damaged the file or damaged it further.
Best practice is to not use a recovered file if at all possible, but to instead replace damaged files with undamaged back up copies.
