Thank you for your post.
It's difficult to determine what is the cause based on the limited information.
What has changed since the last time it worked "great"? I don't expect you to remember, but it may help provide a clue.
If you download a new copy of the Admin Console, does it then launch?
If you reboot the server, does Admin Console then launch?
Any additional information you can provide may be helpful in narrowing down the possible causes.
The admin console launches just cannot start the databases or do anything on it.
How do I download a new console?
I have restarted server--no joy, Have repaired the full install--no joy.
Thank you for the additional information.
Launch a browser and enter:
where <IP address> is the address of the host machine.
Click "Start Admin Console"
If nothing happens, then your browser might have downloaded the Java Web Start file, but might not have started it. Check your web browser configuration to enable Java or automatically open downloaded files. You can also look for:
... where your browser saves downloaded files. Double-click this file to start Admin Console.
I think you are misunderstanding the problem. The console starts fine. I can get to the web page , put in credentials and get to the screen to do things. However I cannot function within because the database server is not started. I get a error in the event code see below:
Log Name: Application
Source: FileMaker Server 10
Date: 8/6/2009 9:58:14 PM
Event ID: 524
Task Category: None
Remote administrator connection from 192.168.1.5 was refused.
<Provider Name="FileMaker Server 10" />
<TimeCreated SystemTime="2009-08-07T04:58:14.000Z" />
Sorry for the confusion. I was focused on the first line of your post - "the console used to work great", so I assumed it wasn't working.
Have you tried to re-deploy FileMaker Server? After you put in the "credentials" and click Next, is this where the error occurred? Or, were you able to enable other services (Web Publishing, etc.)? Did you get a Summary page? Was FileMaker Server successful during the deployment? Are you trying to use Admin Console remotely? If so, do you have all the necessary ports open? I need to know specifically when (and where) this error is encountered.
This worked great at initial deployment. i am trying to run it locally. I also have all ports open anyway because I tried it remote and get the same issue. the other services start from the console but can do anything else besides web publishing.
When the console is open i immidately notice that the databas server is not started by the main report screen as well as the play button in the upper left is highlighted. I press the play button, it thinks for a while then doesor shows nothing. I look in the app event log and get the message I sent you yesterday. That is where I am.
try java 6 update 7
are you saying to uninstall the java I have now ans install update 7?
ok. uninstalled all java and then repaired the FM server and it installed its own version. Still no joy. Database from the console does not start.
Thank you for the update.
From the command line, issue the command:
sudo launchctl start com.filemaker.fms
This should start the FileMaker Server processes correctly.
Then, launch Admin Console, and make sure the Auto-Start options under Configuration are checked.
where do I run this command at????
I am running this on a windows server and cannot run sudo commands.
Shame on me! This is the second time I missed information from your initial post.
No, you would not be able to run the sudo command from Windows.
At this point, it would be easier if you contact our Technical Support department directly. You stated you were frustrated in your initial post more than a week ago, and we still haven't narrowed down the possible causes. Our Technical Support department can stay with you on the phone while you test different scenarios and receive immediate feedback rather than posting, wait for a response, try something else, etc. If you are in North America, call toll-free 800-325-2747.
