Do you have "spotlight" enabled? From posts by others who have had trouble installing upgrades, I've learned that on Macs you must have this utiity enabled in order for the installer utility to find the existing application file.

Depending on how the restore was done (Time Machine, SuperDuper, Carbon Copy Cloner, other) your spotlight database can be out of date or corruptl.
Google "spotlight reset corrupt database"
