Change checkbox "A" based on results of dropdown "B"

      Post

I'm building a hardware/software inventory database, because my department covers all of academic computing we have LOTS of software titles. many are specific to a department (graphics design doesn't use peachtree much) so what I would like is have a drop down list of areas, and have a decent sized check box field that has all the software titles for that available for that area.

All the software information is in it's own table. so I would want the area to reference that table, choose what software is available in that area. so I can then select what compures in that area have the software installed.

if you can't tell I'm new to all of this.

      thanks

I believe you are asking for a conditional value list.

Here's a thread on setting up conditional value lists:

          Custom Value List?

Given that check boxes can take up a lot of space on your layout and you might end up with more values than you can display without entering layout mode and that could hide options from the user, you might be better off with a dropdown or by displaying the values in a portal where clicking a button in the portal selects that item.
